Green Award

Not content with achievement of a LEAF accreditation, Loke CTR Chief Laboratory Research Technician, Busma Butt has continued her sustainable efforts with the achievement of a Green Impact badge.

Green Impact is a sustainability engagement programme delivered by Students Organising for Sustainability UK (SOS-UK). It supports and recognises teams across universities, colleges, and other organisations that embed environmental and social sustainability into their everyday work.

Following the recent Bronze LEAF Accreditation, which focused on making lab-specific operations more sustainable, Green Impact takes a wider view - encouraging positive changes across the entire organisation. This includes not only lab practices, but also office sustainability, responsible travel, and wider engagement with the community.

To achieve this award, Busma and team worked through a comprehensive action plan using the Green Impact Toolkit and successfully completed an audit to confirm our progress. This involved promoting energy-saving behaviours, and improving waste segregation and recycling practices.  A key focus of Green Impact is how teams communicate and embed sustainability within their organisation. At the Loke CTR, we’ve actively raised awareness through regular communication, clear signage, and by integrating sustainability into training materials and lab inductions to ensure lasting impact.
